The north central London Interface Prescribing Guidance 26-27 has been reviewed and updated.
The guidance supports safe, consistent and collaborative prescribing across primary and secondary care by setting out prescribing responsibilities and providing a framework for medicines that require shared management between healthcare settings. It is supported by a range of interface prescribing documents, including shared care guidance, factsheets and the NCL Red List.
Important: The Interface Prescribing Guidance should be read alongside the NCL Primary and Secondary Care Interface Consensus, which provides practical guidance on roles, responsibilities and communication between GP practices, hospital teams and community services. The consensus aims to promote clear communication, shared responsibility and better coordinated patient care, including arrangements for prescribing, monitoring, test results, referrals, fit notes and follow-up care.
Together, these documents support clinicians to:
- Deliver consistent and safe care across organisational boundaries.
- Clarify prescribing and monitoring responsibilities between primary and secondary care.
- Improve communication between healthcare professionals and with patients.
- Ensure patients receive coordinated care with clear accountability for ongoing treatment.
