As a specialist, elective-only orthopaedic provider, the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) is supporting the delivery of High Volume, Low Complexity (HVLC) activity to improve access to planned care and reduce waiting times for patients.
GPs from practices across West and North London ICB can now refer appropriate patients for routine elective orthopaedic care to RNOH via the NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS).
Referrals are being accepted across a range of HVLC pathways, with a focus on:
- primary hip and knee pathways (including day case surgery)
- spine pathways (including injections and selected minimally invasive procedures)
- selected foot & ankle and shoulder & elbow pathways.
The hospital team is planning a GP lunch event on site, to provide an opportunity to discuss MSK management, referral criteria and pathways in more detail with clinical and operational teams. Further details will be shared in due course.
RNOH provides a planned elective environment, offering lower risk of short notice cancellations, streamlined elective pathways, and capacity to treat additional local patients.
All referrals are triaged on receipt, with clear communication back to practices regarding outcomes and next steps.
