The 2026/27 GP contract requires all GP practices delivering primary medical care services under an NHS contract (GMS, PMS or APMS) to participate in the NHS General Practice Staff Survey (GPSS). This is a change from previous years when participation was optional.

• Practices must submit their staff list via the online NHS GPSS staff list portal by 1 September 2026. 

The current NCL GPSS staff list submission rate for practices across NCL is 41.1%. Thank you to those practices that have already submitted their staff lists.

As in previous years, the staff survey will run from early October 2026 to the end of November 2026, with staff receiving a direct email invitation to participate. Organisations require a minimum of 10 responses to protect staff anonymity and receive a local survey report.

Practices may allocate 15 minutes of their Protected Learning Time (PLT) to enable staff to complete the survey. As a reminder, staff should be included based on where they work most of their time, rather than their employment contract.
