NCL Cancer Alliance develops template to improve primary care clinical coding

NCL Wide

NCL Cancer Alliance has developed a template to support GP practices. This is used to code demographic and cancer-related information, from primary care consultations to information received from hospitals.

The template is a mirror of a minimum dataset for cancer activity, developed by NCL Cancer Alliance. It is live and activated in all NCL GP EMIS Web systems (view download for further information).

The minimum dataset is not intended to cover all activity across every stage of the cancer pathway. It provides guidance where there are known gaps or variation in coding practice. It does not include codes that are already standardised and contractually agreed within systems such as cervical screening codes, which are already in place and linked to remuneration.
