The Department of Health and Social Care has issued a reminder that Levemir® products are being discontinued, and stock exhaustion is expected in December 2026. 

This discontinuation was first reported in December 2025.

The Medicines Supply Notification (MSN/2025/036U2) is being re-issued, as a high number of patients remain on Levemir® products. 

Products

• Levemir® (insulin detemir) FlexPen® 100units/ml solution for injection 3ml pre-filled pens
• Levemir® Penfill® 100units/ml solution for injection 3ml cartridges.

Healthcare professionals are reminded to switch patients on Levemir® to a suitable alternative as soon as possible.  As there is not a like for like switch for Levemir®, patients will need careful switching and additional monitoring to alternative insulin products.
