Introduction of referral assessment service for gynaecology services

NCL Wide

From Tuesday 21 July, the Royal Free London will introduce a Referral Assessment Service (RAS) for gynaecology services.

Urgent referrals remain unchanged and should not be submitted via the RAS.

All non-urgent referrals will be triaged before the patient is seen in clinic. Clinicians will review, redirect, or return referrals with advice for primary care management.

Each specialty will provide a single RAS point of access for all sites, guiding booking staff to ensure patients receive the most appropriate appointment.

When submitting a referral, ensure you:

  • attach all relevant clinical information and documents, we are unable to process referrals made without documents
  • include any patient preference for hospital sites to support patient choice
  • continue safety-netting while awaiting triage.

For referral escalations, contact the gynaecology admin team: rf-tr.gynaerasqueries@nhs.net.

Expiry date: Tuesday, 25 August 2026
