HbA1c results for patients with certain haemoglobin variants no longer reported

NCL Wide

From 26 June, Health Services Laboratory (HSL) and The Doctors Laboratory (TDL) will no longer report HbA1c results for patients with certain haemoglobin variants.

This is due to the withdrawal of the Menarini boronate affinity method.

Alternative approaches, including fasting glucose, oral glucose tolerance, and fructosamine testing are recommended.

For further information and guidance, refer to the communications document from HSL.

For any queries related to this change, contact the duty biochemist.
