The aims of the methotrexate prescribing and monitoring locally commissioned service are to:

• ensure relevant monitoring in primary care of methotrexate is undertaken in line with national and local guidance
• ensure the safe prescribing in primary care of methotrexate in order reduce potential harm to patients
• ensure patient education and counselling on methotrexate is provided throughout the patient’s treatment.
