This locally commissioned service (LCS) specification outlines the requirements of providing an ear wax removal service, using microsuction, for the registered population of Enfield.

The key aims are to:

• provide microsuction in primary care (GP practices and PCN hubs)
• provide general ear care advice and education and promote self-management prior to medical intervention
• improve the pathway of care for people with hearing loss by removing ear wax prior to referral for audiology assessment
• provide equitable access to microsuction in primary care and reduce referrals to secondary care
• ensure equity of access across the borough, GP practices/PCNs can opt to provide the service on behalf of other GP practices who do not wish to provide the service
• provide one stop care where possible, with follow ups only for a small number of patients who have clinically identified need for follow up or ongoing regular microsuction and as directed by primary care. To be reported as an exception.
