Highgate East: state-of-the art mental health inpatient facility ready for service users

NCL Wide

Highgate East is the North London Mental Health Partnership’s (NLMHP) brand-new mental health inpatient building on the Camden, Haringey and Islington border. The building is due to be fully open by the end of March 2024. Highgate East’s cutting-edge design provides 78 all single en suite rooms, replacing ageing inpatient facilities at St Pancras Hospital and providing a purpose-built environment which will support the recovery of service users and significantly improve the working lives of staff. The building has outdoor space from each ward, therapy spaces, a sports hall and community café. Highgate East has been co-produced with service users, carers, staff, and the wider community. The building will also be a valuable community asset with a café open to the public helping to destigmatise mental health.

Highgate Campus

NLMHP will relocate its mental health inpatient wards from St Pancras Hospital to the Highgate Campus. The campus will incorporate the new Highgate East building and the existing Highgate Mental Health Centre (Highgate West) which is situated on the opposite side of the Dartmouth Park Hill.

High acuity mental health services will be accommodated at Highgate West, co-locating them with our Health Based Place of Safety service and Mental Health Crisis Assessment Service. Five wards, including rehabilitation and services for ageing and mental health, will be accommodated on the Highgate East site, closer to physical health services at the Whittington Hospital.

Expiry date: Friday, 31 May 2024
