The Veterans' Mental Health Transition, Intervention and Liaison (TIL) Service provides comprehensive mental health assessment and assertive treatment/advocacy. Assessments cover: 

  • mental health
  • drug and alcohol 
  • physical health
  • employment
  • finances
  • social and housing needs.

Individuals are referred to mainstream NHS services and charities (including veteran-specific charities). Also offers information to partners and family members, and help to access local services if required. If mainstream services cannot be identified or an individual falls between the gaps of services and has military-related complex mental health difficulties they can be treated within the complex treatment arm of the service.

Eligibility criteria


  • service personnel approaching discharge from the UK Armed Forces
  • veterans. Please note: a veteran is anyone who has served for one day in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces (regular or reserve)
  • reservists when they are not mobilised

who are either

  • registered with a GP practice in London, Kent, Surrey, East Sussex and West Sussex
  • living in London, Kent, Surrey, East Sussex and West Sussex


  • individuals unable to provide proof of their service (eg. military number) in the UK Armed Forces.

All referrals must be accompanied by a signed Consent to Release Service and Medical Information form which is included in the referral form.

Self-referral Patient Leaflet

Clients can self-refer, but many find it difficult to take that first step into treatment. Therefore, a referral from an agency, in agreement with the client, is preferable.
