There are two aspects to the Pain Management Service.

Community Pain Management (Haringey and Islington)

The community pain management service supports individuals with persistent pain conditions by providing a multidisciplinary approach to persistent pain.

The aim is to maximise quality of life despite pain through the learning, development and maintenance of self-management skills. Services offered within the community pain management service include 1:1 pain management physiotherapy, pain management workshops jointly run with community psychology services and a pharmacy-led medication review clinic.

Secondary Care Pain Management

The consultant led secondary care pain management service offers additional support to individuals with persistent pain conditions.

Additional treatments options include interventional procedures, pharmacological management and access to the clinical health psychology (CHP) team who offer either 1:1 support or group therapy in the form of a 12 week, multi-disciplinary pain management programme.

How to refer

EMIS form

Referral methods: e-Referrals

Refer all patients requiring input for MSK, rheumatology, pain management or orthopaedics (excluding fracture clinic) via the MSK Single Point of Access. Go to the MSK SPOA service page for further details and referral information.

The service will then triage these referrals and re-direct as appropriate. If appropriate, a patient may be referred to a specialised ‘persistent pain’ appointment by the MSK Physiotherapy team.
