The service offers multi-disciplinary assessments and diagnosis of children who may have ASD or related social and communication difficulties. It is a specialist tier 3 service. We do not accept direct referrals from GPs, although we welcome additional information that GPs may provide.

Eligibility criteria

Referral methods: EMIS managed referral

We accept referrals to SCAS from CAMHS, SLT/OTs, Educational Psychologists, paediatricians and developmental services and school SENDCOs when professionals and parents are concerned about autism or related social communication difficulties.

Referrals are triaged, and a screening consultation either at school or at the clinic is offered as the first step to confirm that SCAS is the most appropriate pathway. For those presenting with clinical features of ASD we then undertake formal MDT assessment using validated tools.
