How to refer

Referral methods: e-Referrals

Referral update May 2022:

Direct bookings via e-RS for general hepatology clinics have been closed for all RFL hospitals.

You can still refer patients into the hepatology service, but will not be able to book an appointment. Appointments will be booked by the trust according to clinical need and date of referral.

If your patient needs an urgent referral, please submit an advice and guidance request, via e-RS. This will be reviewed and a response sent back within 72 hours.

The liver service accepts the following enquiries and referrals from GPs:

  • routine referrals via CHIRSS through e-Referrals
  • urgent (non-2WW), please submit an advice and guidance request via e-RS
    • this will be reviewed and a response sent back within 72 hours
  • for urgent cancer referrals, see the 2WW page.

Most patients will be seen within six weeks of referral. For urgent referrals, please telephone or fax the consultant's secretary. The out-patient appointment centre manages enquiries from patients.
