GP referral to NHS Community Pharmacist Consultation Service

NCL Wide

The GP referral to NHS Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (GP CPCS) pathway allows practices to refer patients with minor illness for a same-day consultation with a community pharmacist.

Eligibility criteria

  • residents with minor illness.

  • the minor illness strand has a minimum age limit of one year.

How to refer

EMIS form

Referral methods: e-Referrals

The GP primary care network (PCN) toolkit (see External Links) provides guidance on triage and referral systems, and the referral can be delivered in several ways.

As a minimum viable product (MVP), NHSmail can be used to facilitate referrals.

Practices can approach individual platforms, such as e-Consult or EMIS Patient Access, to adopt their own digital referral process. The GP practice should ensure the referral is suitable and appropriate.

NCL Training Hub delivered a GP CPCS webinar on 7 December 2021 for NCL practices, which discussed referrals using the EMIS Patient Access option (see Related Videos).
