First-Seizure Epilepsy


First-seizure referrals should be sent directly to the trust's first-seizure clinics (as NICE guidelines suggest rapid review and assessment).

The consultants would be happy to discuss any referrals and usually state the eligibility criteria below.

Eligibility criteria


Adult patients with epilepsy or suspected epilepsy, who have had:

  • first seizure within three months
  • no active or significant drug or alcohol dependency
  • no previous neurological review regarding first seizure
  • normal 12-lead ECG

Urgent (non-2WW) via e-Referrals direct to the hospital. For urgent cancer referrals, see the 2WW page.

Patients with established epilepsy should be referred via CHI RSS through e-Referrals.
