Update: Reasonable Adjustment Digital Flag EMIS template available

NCL Wide

NHS England has outlined a requirement for all NHS providers to implement a digital flag on the electronic health record of patients who require reasonable adjustments

Dr Yogasakaran Arjuna, NCL ICB GP Digital Lead, has created an Accurx Florey Questionnaire for practices to use and collect patient Reasonable Adjustments information. The questionnaire is available to all practices.

To support GP practices to be compliant when using their clinical systems and record reasonable adjustments locally, NCL ICB has negotiated access to an EMIS template developed by another London ICB.

NCL ICB is recommending the use of the North East London (NEL) Reasonable Adjustment Flag Template created by the Clinical Effectiveness Group (CEG), in partnership with practices and rolled out across NEL. The team has generously agreed to share its work across London for each ICB to use, and NCL ICB has signed an agreement to gain access to the template. The EMIS Template has been imported into the EMIS Resource Publisher and is ready for practices to use.

There is a short YouTube video below with instructions on how to use the template. Guidance is also available from the Reasonable Adjustment Flag CEG Guidance PDF below. Technical queries can be emailed to nclicb.itandsystems@nhs.net

About the reasonable adjustment digital flag

The Reasonable Adjustment Digital Flag in the NHS Spine enables health and care professionals to record, share and view details of reasonable adjustments across the NHS, wherever the person is treated.

Practices have been asked to start implementing processes to record individual patient adjustments and gain patient consent to share with NHS Spine. Practices should have established a process to upload and download reasonable adjustment information to and from the national Reasonable Adjustment Digital Flag by Sunday 30 June, with full adoption (as business as usual work) expected by December 2025.

For more information, read the full NHS England announcement and for local next steps read the NCL ICB briefing note.
