Barnet Public Health are seeking professionals from primary care to participate in a task and finish group focused on enhancing heatwave preparedness within health and social care settings.
The group will include representatives from local authority public health teams, NCL ICB, emergency preparedness, and professionals from both primary and secondary care settings.
The aim is to improve resilience and preparedness for heatwaves, ensuring vulnerable populations receive prompt and appropriate care during periods of extreme heat.
Areas of Focus
Training on health impacts of heat
- Create training materials on heat-related health impacts for healthcare staff.
- Conduct training sessions through workshops and webinars.
- Identify ways to raise awareness and integrate heatwave response into primary/secondary care operations.
Educational resources for healthcare staff
- Support the development of comprehensive, accessible materials aimed at increasing awareness and providing guidance during heatwaves.
- Participate in the design, and drafting of these educational materials.
- Assist in formulating a concise evaluation plan to measure their effectiveness.
Improving heatwave alerts for GPs
- Exploring how primary care receive heatwave alerts and how this process could be improved.
Coordinate public messaging on extreme weather
- Strengthen cross sector communication for extreme weather, prioritising heatwave readiness and outreach to vulnerable groups within NCL.
What it involves?
The role includes attending regular meetings to discuss and advance heatwave resilience initiatives. It involves collaborating to set goals, plan actions, and clarify responsibilities. Share expertise and provide feedback on materials and strategies, take ownership of specific tasks and help monitor and evaluate how well the initiatives are working.
